Ever scrolled Instagram and come across your favorite artist and each of their post feels like art: clean, crisp, and effortlessly beautiful. And while we know it’s all about the final result, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes to capture those stunning shots.
Here’s some of Ms Amber Reds favorite tips that can help any PMU artist elevate their social media presence.
1. The Right Lighting Is Everything
I swear by natural light—nothing beats it. I love my large windows with soft, diffused sunlight, I feel it captures true-to-life, glowing images. The right lighting can bring out the richness of pigments and make even subtle details pop. I am not a fan of macro lens that have a built in light it changes the true tone of the work & photo.
Tip: If you don’t have access to great natural light, consider investing in a ring light. Just make sure it’s diffused so it doesn’t create harsh shadows or weird reflections!
2. Keep It Clean & Simple
Clean, minimal backgrounds. By keeping things neutral, like white or even black, the focus is on the brows (or whatever feature is being showcased).
Tip: A clutter-free background makes a huge difference. Choose a simple backdrop.
3. Editing
I never edit my work—but I do like to take full face shots in portrait mode as this softens the background without changing the work. The goal is to enhance, not distort.
Tip: Avoid heavy filters. These do not give realistic expectations.
4. Angle Matters
Play with angles! I really love a full face shot! The key is to capture a full view but also zoom in on those intricate details, so your followers can appreciate the skill behind the work.
Tip: Play with angles. A slight tilt or top-down view can transform the look of your photos. Macro lens can really magnify those pixels!🤤
5. Consistency in Style
Develop your own signature style with your Instagram feed. Photos should follow a consistent aesthetic—when someone sees your work they’ll know automatically whose work it is. When you scroll through your feed, pick 2 fonts, 2-3 brand colors, a few different angles and stick to it, this keeps her brand cohesive.
Tip: Pick a style or color palette and stick with it to keep your feed feeling cohesive and intentional. Plan ahead!
